A posteriori

definition

A posteriori is a latin word, in opposition to A priori, which translates literally as “from what comes later”.  It is used to describe a type of knowledge that rests on empirical evidence or experience.

Examples of a posteriori statements are ones that relate to specific contingent facts, such as World War I began in 1914.
